He has considerable expertise in corporate communications, issues management and advocacy work, particularly in the areas of finance, healthcare and development. Over the past 5 years, Richard has been particularly active in furthering private sector development in Sub Saharan Africa, working to improve the climate for business with a broad range of multinational companies as well as the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.

He is an experienced adviser in crisis communications and media relations, where he has worked with several high profile companies to guide their communications and coach their spokespeople. Richard regularly facilitates meetings and trains clients to deliver their messages in a more effective way.

Prior to joining GPlus, Richard worked with APCO Europe, Weber Shandwick and most recently as Senior Consultant at akkanto (former European Communication Strategies). He also has public sector experience having worked earlier in his career at the Council of the European Union.

Richard holds a law degree from the University of Utrecht, specialising in European law. A Dutch-Australian national, he speaks English, Dutch, French and German.
